What is the Digital Media Show?
The DMS is an annual showcase of students' digital media. It includes speakers who work in the field of digital media, both in academia and in the industry.

What is "digital media"?
Digital media is a piece of work that used a computer as a principle tool in its creation. Some examples are animation, video games, interactive design, digital video, digital audio, digital photography, and computer-aided architectural design. The Digital Media Show hopes not only to show how traditional media has been changed by the digital era, but how digital media has created its own form independent of traditional media. So a 3D animated short is just as acceptable as a Flash website or a feature-length film shot in HD.

How do I get my stuff in the Digital Media Show?
Submissions are accepted by dropping them off with a submission form either at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies on the 5th floor of the Walker building or room 719 in the Little Building. If the submission is a website, it can be submitted by emailing Daniel Leich (daniel_leich@emerson.edu) with an attached copy of the submission form. Hard copies can be submitted on CD, DVD, or tape. We prefer CDs or DVDs. Submissions are open until late March. The forms are available at the Institute or online here on the main page. The submitted work must be the work of the submitting student, the plagiarism policies of the school reflect fully in the Digital Media Show. We do not accept suggestions of neat things to be shown, only digital work created by Emerson students. Also, please put it in a format that can be read relatively universally (i.e. Quicktime .mov, Flash .swf, .jpg, DivX .avi, .mp3, etc).

Are the submissions reviewed by industry professionals or given awards?
No, the Digital Media Show serves as a showcase for student work, it is not an award show nor will submissions be professionally reviewed by anyone.

Who will the speaker be this year?
The featured speaker has not yet been decided, but it will be an expert at digital media either in the world of academia, industry, or both. The speaker may be from any digitally-related field, whether it is a specialist of art, audio, video, interactive, or a mix of all kinds of strange and wonderful things. Last year we had Darius Kazemi, a gaming industry professional who works locally for Turbine, Inc. who spoke of how digital media and video games are shaping media of the future. Also last year and again this year will be our introductory speaker David Bogen, director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies here at Emerson, and professor of the amazing Digital Culture course.

What will the "theme" of this year's show be?
Last year the Digital Media Show took the theme of a classy academy feel, a celebration of digital media as fine art. This year our theme is quite the opposite, a bass-heavy underground perspective of digital media as a grassroots world built by the user for the user. Last year's dress code was to wear something classy, this year our dress code is in the scene of cyberpunk and British trip-hop. Listen to some Massive Attack.

Is it gonna be on Second Life too?
No.
